The Musical Genre

It is no secret that people change over time.  That is a fact of life.

A huge part of my life is my experiences with cinema.  It is my life long love affair.  A change in my movie habits has been my enjoyment of the musical genre.

Prior to this evolution I throughly enjoyed a select titles.  The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Across the Universe, and Cabaret topped a shortlist with a few biopics and documentaries about musicians sprinkled in the mix.  If you have not seen the toe tapping Muscle Shoals or intriguing The Wrecking Crew do yourself a favor and watch these documentaries. They are a fascinating look at music history.

Getting back on track in recent years I have begun to throughly enjoy a genre I once avoided.  I credit Singin In the Rain as the break through film. IpThe movie tackles the transition from silent films to talking pictures. The film history at the core of the film fascinated me.

Classics such as The King and I got a second chance as well as new releases like The Greatest Showman became instant favorites.

I love the thrill of the hunt at local thrift stores.  I take pride in my expansive movie library and these donations have become treasures in my collection. I have discovered such classics as The Band Wagon, White Christmas, Shall We Dance, Paint Your Wagon, The Wiz, and Top Hat.

When I started my movie viewing these films would of never been included in my viewing rotation. As times change I have become appreciative of such gems.

Yes there are titles I still dislike, The Sound of Music & West Side Story for example, but that is as natural as change.

Until next time I have movies to watch and opinions to formulate.
