THE SUMMER SEASON!

The first weekend in May has seen its sunset.  This weekend saw the release of the latest MCU entry Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3.  With this release the 2023 summer blockbuster season is now open.  It opened with a dud but there is plenty more event films to illuminate the silver screen this summer.

This season, like seasons of the past, will be filled with big budget popcorn spectacles, family fun flare, franchise entrees, and the odd original film with a huge ensemble.  Oppenheimer, the new Christopher Nolan film, is not only the film that excites me the most this summer but whole year.  I hope to have some unique smaller films sprinkled in the mix.  The Farewell, a really awesome film from 2019, is a must see example of a small Indy film sprinkled into the summer season.

The blockbuster season started with the one to punch of 1977’s Jaws and 1978’s Star Wars: A New Hope.  From these beginnings fans have lined for entries in many franchises including Die Hard, Pirates of the Caribbean, and my personal favorite 007.  Will Smith slapped his way to stardom with summer blockbusters like Independence Day and the Men in Black series.

As rge dog days of summer pass join me as I sit back in an air conditioned theater, enjoying an over sized drink, watching a summer blockbuster!
