CLASSIC REWIND

It is not a well kept secret that I can get stuck in my ways.  I prefer watching psychical media over streaming and there is nothing that compares to the joy of seeing a movie on the big screen.  The bigger the crowd, oddly the more comfortable I am.

In addition to enjoying new releases, I attend screenings of classic films.  This year I have attended screenings of Jurassic Park, Blazing Saddles,  Murder on the Orient Express among other classics.  Most recently I attended a screening of 1939’s The Wizard of Oz.  I am not a huge fan of this film, but I had never seen it in theaters.  I also wanted to put a ticket stub in the dvd I inherited from my grandma.

The movie is a completely experience in the theater. The imagery that the cinematography and the production design creates is beauty at its best. Scenes of flying monkeys are more intense and the music blaring through the surround sound created an experience to remember.

As I mentioned I love a crowd especially at these classics.  50-60 folks laughing along to Blazing Saddles and tapping their feet to My Fair Lady is just as exciting as folks cheering on Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

My favorite, so far, this year has been The Land Before Time.  I grew up with this movie and wore out the VHS tape.  Sharing the trip down memory lane with strangers and friends alike is a memory for the ages.

The power of film is bringing people together.  New releases do it well, classics are perfect at it.
