CINEMA TIMES

I like interesting movies.  I like bizaire movies.  At the cross roads of interesting and bizarre is the 2023 release BlackBerry.

The film blurs the Line between fiction and non fiction to tell the story of the creation and rise and fall of the blackberry.

The movie is a snapshot of modern history.  Throughout the century of cinema movies have taken snapshots of their times.  Non fiction films and documentaries that tell modern events are what typically come to mind when looking at world events.

Fiction films, particularly franchises, also take pages from the events of the world around them.  Look no further than the over sixth year history of the James Bond franchise. In the first entity, Dr No, the Cold War was front and center. In the latest feature, No Time to Die, world events such as Brexit and the Trump election were part of the story.  On the interim years events such as the space race, furl crisis, and aids epidemic got screen time. I assume that the franchise will have the change at the head of the monarchy written into its story.

Recent films such as the Book Club sequel have already incorporated Covid into their stories. In fact the 2021 release Together is a fiction film about the world wide pandemic.

You can gI further back in cinema history.  Charlie Chaplin addressed the Great Depression and Second World War in his films.

Not just events of the times but issues get attention. Racism has been portrayed in films such as In the incredible  Heat of the Night.  You can see the influence of the me to movement in releases such as Pronising Young Woman and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing MO.

Film is a powerful tool to portray events and issues of any time.
