Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse

SYNOPSIS:  Miles Morales catapults across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero.

3:30pm, Saturday June  third was a sunny and uncomfortably warm afternoon.  So naturally I was sitting comfortably in a climate controlled movie theater with the lights falling. After a variety of trailers I escaped back into the Spiderverse.

Spider-man: Across the Spoderverse is an animated joyride. The well over two hour runtime went by in a blink with a well told story.  After loving the first journey into the spiderverse I was nervous about sequel syndrome setting in with this film.  I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong.  Was this film better than the first? No.  Was it just as good? Yes!

The wat the animators presented the story was a visual feast.  Visually it was watching a comic book appear on screen, complete with kapow appearing on screening.   In the sixties Adam West’s Batman did the same thing.  While I enjoyed the technique in both films, the Batman movie is clearly dated, still a blast to watch.  Spider-Man shared that same spirit of fun but added a great since of adventure.

I’m true cinematic fashion a third feature has been announced for summer 2024.  I eagerly await the release of Beyond the Spiderverse.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
