The year is approximately at its half way point. The summer heat has made itself comfortable and the days are unbeatably long. In a matter of months I will be displaying my, let’s call it lack of enthusiasm but that is a massive understatement, for the holidays. I am already dreading those days. However it will be my favorite time of the year at the movies. I love watching the big awards contenders in rapid release.
Looking back at the year so far I have been impressed with how much better the movies have been this year over last.
Yes I was massively disappointed with the two Marvel films (Ant Man & the Wasp Quantummania, Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3) released at this point in the year
However the DV feature The Flash surprised me at how much fun it was to watch.
Other releases have been a blast to watch as well. 65, Cocaine Bear, Creed III immediately come to mind.
Not all features haven been big blockbusters. How to Blow Up A Pipeline, Sanctuary, and Blackberry have been fantastic Indy films and must sees of the year.
Sure there have been duds to watch as well. Fool’s Paradise and Emily top that list. But films like The Little Mermaid have pleasantly surprised me at how much I enjoyed them.
Sone great classics have relit screens this year. I have now seen the historical musical Stormy Weather, the John Wayne western Rio Bravo and the martial arts masterpiece Enter the Dragon on the big screen!
There are six more months of movie viewing to go before I name the best films of the year. At this pace that is a task that is easier said than done.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
