Synopsis: From the producers of Neighbors and the co-screenwriter of Crazy Rich Asians, JOY RIDE stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Oscar® nominee Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu. The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Stephanie Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.
Joy Ride was a wild ride to watch! It was filled with filthy humor and moments of genuine sweetness. It was a nice balance that made for a hell of a good time at the movies!
Joy Ride succeeded where films like Girls Trip and Rough Night failed. That is being a successor to the incredible Bridesmaids. Both movies are funny because of a talented cast working with strong source material, I’m the story.
This film Carrie’s the diversity torch forward as well. All the leafs are women and Asian. In fact the majority of the sprawling ensemble is Asian. Diversity, I’m film and life, continues to be a great thing, even though I feel strongly how diverse representation remains a huge proble, in todays society. Will this movie solve that problem? No nut it is a step in the right direction. If this movie dies well at the box office, like Crady Rich Asians, the Fast and the Furious Franchise, and 2023’s The Little Mermaid more inclusive movies will be made for main stream movie goers.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
