As time marches forward tastes change.  What I want from a movie and how I perceive them is no exception.  

    The first film in this franchise came out in 1996, I was ten years old. At that point in my life I was watching the action movie for really cool action sequences. 

    When the first sequel came out four years later I was starting high school. I still wanted to watch really awesome action sequences but also wanted to see pretty women on screen.

   Things were changing when the third one hit theaters I’m 2006.  I wanted to watch a movie with an incredibly menacing villain. Maybe world events such as 9/11 contributed to that.

     It is now 2023 and this franchise that I have grown up with has released its seventh entry.  What I wanted when I left for the theater was a strong story, well told, with fascinating characters. With this film I got all of that during the almost three hour runtime. 

   As mentioned at the start of this blog about how tastes changs so does perception. Recently I went to a screening of the 1978 classic Grease.  I had not seen this movie ib 25 years. That long time ago I enjoyed watching a mindless musical with a few catch songs. Rewatching this movie after going through puberty I picked up the massive sexual content.

     How will my standards and perspective in film change as I continue to do the same is to be determined.  I look forward to the continuing changes.
