OPPENHEIMER A MASTERPIECE OF CINEMA

SYNAPSIS: The story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atomic bomb.

There have been inventions throughout time that have made a lasting impact on human society.  The light bulb, sliced bread, the movie projector, and the atom bomb for instance.

Oppenheimer and the invention of the atom bomb is the subject of Christopher Nolan’s cinematic masterpiece Oppenheimer.

The source of any good movie is a strong story.  This one starts there and three hours later finishes strong.  The story is non linear and works well with the subject matter.  I like this modern trend in the biopic genre where the first act hits a few highlights in the subjects life than focuses on one major event that the subject is known.  On the Basis of Sex and Marshall did this well.

The film, like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is an original story with an incredible ensemble.  This is what I want the future of the summer blockbuster season to be instead of water downed sequels and remakes.  Oppenheimer has an all star cast with each actor perfect in his or her role. Sometimes the actor is unrecognizable I’m the role.  Gary Oldman and Robert Downey Jr chief among them.

Typically my biggest complaint about a movie is the score. This one was interesting.  I liked how it combined sound effects with the music,  it was also very subtle and stuck to the back ground.  This allowed the actors to do their job in telling the story and not insult my intelligence to tell me how to feel at any given point in a movie. That is one of two of my biggest pet peeves in film, when the music is over powering.

I fully expect this movie to be the dominate film at this winters Academy Awards.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
