The Miracle Club: A Small Indy Film

SYNOPSIS: Ballyfermot, Ireland, 1960. A hard-knocks community in outer Dublin marches to its own beat, rooted in traditions of loyalty, faith and togetherness. There’s just one tantalising dream for the women of Ballyfermot to taste freedom and escape the gauntlet of domestic life: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes. And with a little benevolent interference from their cheeky and rebellious priest, close friends Lily, Eileen, Dolly and Sheila are the ‘lucky’ few to win this ticket of a lifetime at their riotous local raffle night.

I am a fan of movies, both big and small.  My baseline expectation for all movies is the same.  I want a good story that is well told and acted.

A small Indy film called The Miracle Club has recently lit up the silver screen.  I’m fast as of 7/24 it is still playing in a limited capacity.

The trailer for the movie looked fun and I was drawn to the cast.  Maggie Smith,Laura Linney, and Kathy Bates are all incredible actresses.

The trailer looked like the movie would be 90 minutes of fluff, which can be fun.  I was pleasantly surprised to watch a film that balances genuine light hearted moments with serious subject matters.  This combination made for a compelling film that creates interesting talking points.

The three women lead an ensemble that is well assembled. All three women shine without pushing out others in the cast.

The biggest problem I have with the film is the release date.  It opened the same weekend as the hit to be Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning part 1.  The following weekend saw the release of two highly anticipated films, Oppenheimer and Barbie.  Unfortunately this will get lost in the shuffle.

If you get a chance I recommend seeing this little film.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
