SYNSOPSIS: The eccentric staff of a rundown theat
er camp in upstate New York must band together with the beloved founder’s bro-y son to keep the camp afloat.
There is a quote I love from Neil Patrick Harris’ opening number, Moving Pictures, at the 87th Academy Awards: “they might not be real life but they can show you what life really means”. In the years since I heard that quote I have come to realize how it is the core of some really, and at times surpassingly, strong movies.
Theater Camp is an indy film that is perfectly described by that quote. The mockumentary has a great since of humor while tackling a variety of serious issues. It blends the two nicely.
In looking up the movie there were very few cast member I recognized. Not all movies require a celebrity. Movie stars do need to get their start somewhere. There is talent of all ages that deserve to achieve movie star status in their career.
This small movie plays well with a crowd, for that reason I recommend seeing it on the big screen. If that is not an option it should be streaming at some point (the dvd will be part of my library when available). Gather friends together to watch and enjoy the little movie that will entertain you.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
