GOLDA (223)

GOLDA STORYLINE: Focuses on the intensely dramatic and high-stakes responsibilities and decisions that Golda Meir, also known as the ‘Iron Lady of Israel,’ faced during the Yom Kippur War.

Does the moment a film is made effect how the story is portrayed?  For instance during the writing of Zero Dark Thirty history was changed when Osama Bin Laden was killed.  An open ended manhunt thriller became an incredible true espionage film.

GOLDA focuses on an incredible leader standing up to Russian and other forces during the Yom Kippur War.

I do not know the behind the scenes of this movie but I could easily see this being a boots on the ground war film with Golda’s involvement being a subplot, much like Dunkirk.  With Putin’s invasion of Ukraine I can easily see the story changing to what it became.

Helen Mirren, who is an incredible actress, gives an incredible performance.  This performance I can see earning her yet another Oscar nomination. Same for the make up artists. The combination of the make up and performance makes one forget that this is Helen Mirren.

Movies like this one was a major driving force behind the Oscar parties, when I did them.  I like bringing attention to meaningful movies and yes this is a meaningful movie.

This is a true story about a leader standing up for her people against a bully.  That message is important across mainly aspects of life.

Part of the power on this was film is how it portrays the violence of war.  The audience is following characters as they react to the violence instead of watching characters in war, like in Saving Private Ryan.

This movie will find a spot on my year end top ten film list of 2023, one of four films so far this year guaranteed a spot

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
