STORYLINE:
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.
I like action movies! Liam Neeson in Taken, Gerard Butler in Olympus Has Fallen, Sean Connery in the Bond films & The Rock, Keanu Reecpves in The Matrix/John Wick, Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, and recently Denzel Washington in The Equalizer 3.
In 2014 I enjoyed the first entry in the Denzel Washington franchise. I did so again when the deqiel was released in 2018. In the tears since the two releases I have enjoyed the original show in reruns.
Now can you imagine my excitement for the threequel?
Tuesday night I took advantage of discount tickets and was front and center for an evening showing. Two hours later I walked out of the theater on an adrenaline high.
I throughly enjoyed the well crafted action sequences that surrounded a well thought out and simple plot.I liked that the plot was not over done. It’s ok to tell a simple story well instead of an overly complicated story poorly.
With that in mind I enjoyed the shorter runtime this film had over other action sequels released this year. Mission Inpossible 7 and John Wick 4 both clock in near the three hour mark, nearly an bout longer than this Denzel Washingonton blockbuster. Please do not misunderstand, I enjoyed all the previously mentioned movies.
Not all movies have to be Oscar contenders, some can be mindless entertainment, which is exactly where The Equalizer 3 falls.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
