A SPOOKY 2023 SEQUEL!

STORYLINE: When single father Victor Fielding’s daughter, Angela, and her friend Katherine, show signs of demonic possession, it unleashes a chain of events that forces him to confront the nadir of evil. Terrified and desperate, he seeks out Chris MacNeil, the only person alive who’s witnessed anything like it before.

It’s October, a time of year when scares jump on to the big screen.  It is hard to find a scarier film then The Exorcist.  After fifty years the franchise has released its latest sequel The Exorcist: Believer.

I was eager to see this franchise entry and I really wanted it to be a good movie.  I had my doubts because of my love for the 1973 classic.

After a runtime of two hours and one minute I emerged from the auditorium pleased with what I had just seen.  The film does suffer from sequel fatigue though. It still did a lot I liked.

The sequel told its own story upside The Exorcist franchise while fitting in the story arc mold created by the icon first film. Also bringing back Ellen Burstyn in a minimal role was a nice touch.  Other nods to actors such as naming a character after Max Von Sydow was a pleasant and subtle homage to the original film.

The Exorcist:Believer featured sone nice jump scares. It went for shock value but not to the extent its predecessor did.  With modern films like the Saw franchise I could be slightly immune to shock value though.

I was not disappointed and entertained by this movie, which is where my expectations were when I took my seat for this feature.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
