STORYLINE: it’s a concert film and concert films are not real movies. They are over extended and often unentertaining music videos.
Based off what I wrote for the storyline for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour cab you guess what I am going to say about this feature film? Hint it is not how much I enjoyed it.
I sat down for the 2:30 showing Saturday afternoon eager because I enjoy a crowded movie theater. Beyond a freshly popped popcorn that’s where my enthusiasm pretty much ends. I knew there would be no documentary like plot points, detailing behind the scenes of the tour, to draw me in and ,are this concert footage a real movie. There was no fan footage discussing their favorite Taylor songs just her singing on stage. For three hours that’s boring and I have seen her live in concert, where there is a difference.
I was annoyed even more as the fans rushed the screen to sing and dance at the front of the auditorium. This did not happen for one or two of their favorite songs but for the bulk of the movie. I did read that this was encouraged but at a movie theater that is not screening The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which over 48 years is a beast of its own unique making) should not be encouraged. Sing along at an actual concert, to the radio, or to a cd. Look up what a cd is.
There is one exception to my dislike of concert films and it is 2018’s Amazing Grace. It surprises me even more bevause of how I feel about gospel music and what it represents. However Aretha Franklin is an incredible artist.
As a side note if you have not seem the documentary Muscle Shoals do, it is INCREDIBLE. The toe tapping, should of at least been Oscar nominated documentary, is about the recording studio where Aretha Franklin and many others recorded some legendary music. I’m fact skip this Taylor Swift mess and watch that great film. I’m my opinion.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
