STORYLINE: A riveting chapter in the life of world-class athlete Diana Nyad. Three decades after giving up marathon swimming in exchange for a prominent career as a sports journalist, at the age of 60, Diana becomes obsessed with completing an epic swim that always eluded her: the 110 mile trek from Cuba to Florida, often referred to as the “Mount Everest” of swims. Determined to become the first person to finish the swim without a shark cage, Diana goes on a thrilling, four-year journey with her best friend and coach Bonnie Stoll and a dedicated sailing team.
NYAD is a film I am torn on. For everything I ebhoyed about the movie there was something I was disappointed about the film.
Take the two incredible women who anchored the movie. I love both Jodie Fisted and Annette Bening. Both were good in their respective role. Both would of been better portraying the others character.
I love a triumphant true story and the world needs more uplifting true stories with all the craziness right now. Yes the was an incredible accomplishment but I didn’t care enough for the characters to cheer on and share in the triumph. I could go on but I feel I have made my point.
This disappoints me because I have loved the directors documentaries. Meru, Free Solo, and Wild Life all created intense back drops while presenting fascinating subjects.
I’m not saying it’s a bad movie, rather a mediocre movie.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
