Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023)

STORYLINE: Mike Schmidt, a night guard at a local diner, becomes troubled after confronting the truth about the animatronic costumes that reside: they aren’t just robots. They are alive. Will he be able to survive all five nights at this haunted diner? Or is something more sinister at play?

It is the final weekend of October.  Halloween is right around the corner.  Ghosts and ghouls are coming out to play at the box office with the release of Five Nights at Freddy’s.

This PG-13 horror flick did the job for me.  I was entertained but not over the moon.  The plot seemed a little disjointed.  However I did like the general idea of taking the kid friendly movie Night at the Museum and turning the genera

Idea into a horror movie.  Of course sprinkled in are other movies like the Clint Eastwood drama Mystic River and the horror classic Choldren of the Corn.

Sone of my favorite horror films are rated R.  Psycho, The Shining, The Exorcist top the list.  They all come from an era when gore was used to support the scares and story not the eta of Saw and Hostel when scares and story are there to support the gore.  At this point in my life I would rather see a PG-13 horror film with a good story and legit scares instead of just being grossed out. The Visit, Insidious, Lights Out are three great examples of PG-13 horror films with good scares and stories.

With a PG-13 rating Five Nights at Freddy’s attempts to do that. Also it doesn’t limit the high school box office dollars that an R rating would.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
