THANKSGIVING: A 2023 Slasher Film

Storyline: The riots in a shopping Mall on Black Friday end in a great tragedy. A year later, in the same town of Plymouth in Massachusetts, a mysterious killer goes on a killing spree in the days leading up to the great and bloodthirsty finale on Thanksgiving Day.

For those familiar with the 2007 double feature Grindhouse, created by Robert Rodrigruez and Quentin Tarantino may remember the fake trailers featured as part of the movie.  Machete was the most famous of these trailers, years ago was turned into a feature film. Fifteen years later Thanksgiving has been has been promoted to feature length status.

While the slasher genre hit its peak in the 70/80’s with a few strong outliers in the 90’s Thanksgiving lovingly pays homage to the films of these eras while incorporating modern day plot points to keep viewers attention and have its time stamp in cinematic history noted.

The plot kept it simple, which allowed it to be told well and the filmmakers to be creative in other aspects of their slasher film.

I enjoyed the moments that felt fresh out of a 70/80’s slasher film.

No doubt this will try to be a budding franchise and I will gobble up a Thanksgiving sequel.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
