MAESTRO (2023k

SYNSOPSIS: Maestro will tell the complex love story of Leonard and Felicia, a story that spans over 30 years-from the time they met in 1946 at a party and continuing through two engagements, a 25 year marriage, and three children: Jamie Bernstein, Alexander Bernstein and Nina Bernstein Simmons.

Bradley Cooper returns to the directors chair to follow up his 2018 directorial debut A Star is Born with Maestro.  Unlike A Star is Born Mr Cooper has crafted a well made and fascinating movie from start to finish.

The movie does feature the music of subject Leonard Bernstein but I appreciated the fact that it took a back burner to his story as human being.  The movie focused on his story with his wife and his time with family.  The composer was a musical genius and I knew that as I sat down to see the movie.  The point was made but I was pleased that it was not the focal point.

I know this film has a limited window of opportunity to see on the big . Thank you, ugh Netflix.  Do because the surround sound is worth it for the classical musical scenes. Then again I am bias because I am a huge advocate of going to see movies in a theatrical setting.

Maestro seems bound for Oscar glory, despite my objections that Netflix films be disqualified from consideration. With that said both Carey Mulligan and Bradley Cooper gave performances that are worthy of being nominated.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
