STORYLINE: Forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, former baseball player Ray Waller moves into a new house with his wife and two children. He hopes that the backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for himself. However, a dark secret from the home’s past soon unleashes a malevolent force that drags the family into the depths of inescapable terror.
January can often be a dry time at the box office for new releases. The roar of the holiday’s release rush has settled and the awards rush is on the horizon.
The recent horror release Night Swim caught my eye recently and I swimminglysat down with an oversized drink in hopes of a few decent jump scares as I watched the PG 13 horror feature.
As the lights rose two hours later I found myself mildly entertained by the movies plot. The film it self was formulaic. After all it is a genre picture.
I did like the aspect of taking the classic haunted house aspects out of the basement or attic and moving it to the swimming pool. While the classic haunted house bits remained in the film it was fun to see them redone in a different location.
In true horror film fashion Night Swim told a complete story while setting up a the potential of a sequel.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
