ORIGIN

STORYLINE: Grappling with tremendous personal tragedy, writer Isabel Wilkerson sets herself on a path of global investigation and discovery as she writes Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.

When I saw the trailer for Origin, I must admit I was unsure of yhr plot.  It took some reading for me to uncover what was the movie was about.  Once I figured it out I was intrigued to see it.

Even more so when I found out Ava DuVernay was directing the movie. Yes her A Wrinkle In Time adaptation was not the greatest but Selma and 13th were both strong films.  She crafted Origin well.

While making many strong points about the caste system the film told its story I’m an interesting way.  It intertwined the writing of the book with bits of the book being adapted for the screen. Much like 2003’s Adaptation, starring Nicolas Cage.

Towards the end of the movie there were a few scenes that could of been edited or removed from the movie all together. I despise when there are scenes that are emotionally manipulative. In these scenes the music can get over dramatic for instance and I hate being told how to feel.  I am smart enough to know my own emotions. I know I have made that point in previous blogs but it is important to me.

In the end Origin made some important points and I feel is worth rewatching because there is alot to process in this film.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
