STORYLINE: Based on a remarkable true story, ORDINARY ANGELS centers on Sharon Steves (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed Schmitt (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels. (IMDb)
I sat down to see Ordinary Angels because I am a fan of Hilary Swank. Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don’t Cru, and Freedom Writers were incredible films. Even the disaster film The Core was a blast and a half to watch. Ordinary Angels will not be added to that list. In fact the list I will be putting Ordinary Angels on is a list of awful movies.
The film was emotionally manipulative from opening scene to closing credits. In between there were many moments were the music became overwhelming telling me how to feel in any random moment. I have said it before I hate overly loud and played score. I a, smart enough to know how to feel at any moment and it insults my intelligence.
Ordinary Angels combined its 100 minute runtime with an overwhelming score with scenes designed to tug at the heart strings. The filmmakers did this by filling the movie with many uninspired stand up and cheer moments with many moments that were suppose to be heart warming mixed in. I say suppose to be because there are so ,any that they lose there effect and I just rolled my eyes thinking ‘really, we are doing this again”.
I hope the next movieI see will be a better movie.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
