STOPMOTION (Indy Horror)

STORYLINE: A stop-motion animator struggles to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother.

Some scary films go for cheap others, such as Silence of the Lambs, have a bit more sophisticated story to them. Somewhere in between is the independent release STOPMOTION.

The premise told in the film is one that has been told before.  It’s one where the central character is haunted by grief and is driven to madness by that grief. This made for a predictable movie.

What made  Stopmotion an entertaining film to watch for me was the atmosphere that was created by thre filmmakers. The movie had some nice jump scares combined with a very nice slow burn in the way the story was told. The story was not to slow as to lose my interest but just enough to keep me engaged in the story.  Speaking of the story, I loved how it almost seemed  reminiscent of a darker version of the three little pigs.

The cinematography helps create the tone of the film.  It aids nicely in creating a level of creepiness in this film.   Visual aids are an important tool in crafting a truly horrifying film and when creating the atmosphere of this one it was done well.

When it came time to end Stopmotion there didn’t seem to be any big music build up and a big bang.  Yes there was a was an exciting climax but it see,Ed to be under played which I thought added to the suspense of the movie.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
