There is a trend currently circulating in cinema that I don’t like. That is to craft two and a half to three hour movies and only tell half a story. Then go on yo create a sequel that is equally as long to finish the story bugs me. The final Harry Potter seemed to kick off the trend. Years later franchise entries The Fast and The Furious and Mission Impossible are doing the same thing, witg the second halves coming soon, as well as the science fiction film Dune and the recent release Dune part Two. I have no objection to long films, Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon for instance. If it is a long movie I prefer an entire story instead of a fraction of one.
It took me a fair amount of time to dive back into the world of Dune. Once I settled back into the science fiction civil unrest I enjoyed the film. It is a far cry from my favorite science fiction film but not everything can be the beauty of Interstellar or be as intriguing as Ex Machina.
However Dune Part Two was incredibly well made. It sounded great and was a visual feast. It better be if I a, going to sit and watch for almost three hours.
I did find the film overly preachy and not just with its religious text. There was a lot about nuclear destruction and political struggle. I get offended when a film gets preachy with its messages and slaps me across the face with them. I have the cognitive ability to pick them up on my own whether I agree with them or not.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
