STORYLINE:When Jessica returns to her childhood home with her family, she finds her old teddy bear, Chauncey, and sees that her youngest stepdaughter Alice has grown attached to it. After Alice’s behavior becomes concerning, and the games that she and Chauncey play turn increasingly sinister, Jessica starts realizing that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed bear she believed him to be for all those years.
There are a wide variety of things that go bump in the night that craft the horror genre. Imaginary focuses its attention on an unseen imaginary friend. This concept is unoriginal but from the trailers showed potential to be an entertaining horror flick.
Imaginary did not really get going until the third act. That’s not saying the first two acts were without their moments. They were just far and few between in those first two acts. The third act though was where the film really shined with its jump scares and in a horror movie that is where the entertainment lies.
Imaginary duplicated what Insidious did as a film in 2010. The difference is Insidious did is much better and has now turned it into a five film franchise with each film easily entertaining and stand up upon rewatching. I doubt Imaginary will stand up to a second viewing.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
