CABRINI (2024 ~ Drama)

STORYLINE: From Alejandro Monteverde, award-winning director of Sound of Freedom, comes the powerful epic of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889 and is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children. Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society’s most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.  (IMDb)

I start this blog with a confession, I was hesitant when I went to see Cabrini. I typically do not enjoy religious movies. After all there is a reason I ghave not been to church in over five years but that is irrelevant to this blog.

What Cabrini focused on was the struggles of an Itilian immigrant and woman all rolled into one strong willed character.  That made for a more fasinating movie as Cabrini struggles to create an orphanage and than is asked by a doctor to take over a failing hospital.

The production design on the film was breathtaking to view.  Between period Italy and New York sets as well as a scene or two set on a steamboat the sets were magnificent.  There were plenty of scenic New York to show off as well as many different interior sets that were well crafted. Oscars 2025 take note of this film as a potential nominee for the production design category.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
