The 96th Annual Academy Awards Wrap Up

Another Oscars is in the rear view mirror.  Jimmy Kimmel took the stages to host for his fourth time.  He continues to be a reliable and entertaining host who carries thevshow from start to finish.  He has only improved as host from his first time years ago.

It has been a few years since a good film actually won the award for best picture.  The last one to do so prior to Oppenheimer was Nomadland.  In between was the hallmark like film Coda and the disjointed Ecerythng Everywhere All At Once.  Again it was pleasant to have a return to form with a good film win the award in Oppenheimer.

The two best speeches were in the supporting acting categories staring with  Da’Vine Joy Randolph‘s emotional accemption speech with her victory for her performance on The Holdovers. This was followed by Robert Downey Jr acknowledging his own struggles and thanking those who helped get past them as he accepted the supporting actor award for his performance in Oppenheimer. (Side note I have been saying since July he will win this award and guess what? He did!)

I am thrilled that the previous winners in rge avribg categories came back to talk about each performance. I think this is a really beautiful way to present the acting awards instead of showing a clip of the performance and an intriguing way to promote the movie.  You can get a personal insight to the performance that you can not get from the clip.

Having Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Deviti reunite to copresent was a pleasant surprise and I liked there banter. They also looked like a semi Dolan standing together on Oscar stage.

So until next years Oscar’s join me at the movies! Who knows we may just be watching the next best picture winner.
