Snack Shack (2024 – Independent film)

STORYLINE: Nebraska City, 1991, two best friends get the chance to run the swimming pool snack shack, that later comes to be the perfect scenario for transgression, fun, personal discovery and romance.

Nostalgia can be a powerful thing. It has the power to flood youth mind with memories of another time.  For better or worse nostalgia is what got me excited to see the 1991 set Snack Shack.

Two hours after the lights went down I left the auditorium mildly entertained. I did not love Snack Shack the way I loved other movies set in the 90’s such as The Wackness.

Snack Shack seemed all over the place with style.  The movie was a bit of a drama mixed with a coming of age story.  Also mixed in was a teen romance and a best friend story.  There were to many directions for one film while trying to keep a simple story.  I still enjoyed the movie but would of enjoyed the movie more if it had more focus, like The Way Way Back (2013) had.

I did emjoy the flashback to the era which I grew up.  I enjoyed hearing the dialogue and seeing the fashion of the 90s.  Would I live through the 90s again? No.  Why? It means I am on the cusp of puppetry and no one wants me to go through that again..  Thanks to films like Snack Shack I can revisit my childhood with nostalgia.

Until next I will see you at the movies!
