What do those films have have in common with Problemista? All are anchored by an incredible performance by Tilda Swinton.
Like the actress, Problemista is a unique talent. The independent film balances between a delicate since of humor and the struggles of being an immigrant stuck in the system.
There were times, chiefly in the middle of the movie, where things got uncomfortable. However things bounced back. By the end of the ninety eight minutes I was throughly pleased with the movie that I had just seen.
Problemista could of easily been a variety of different movies. The film could of very easily been one that was over the top with its message, so much so that it would of insulted my intelligence but it was nicely restrained that way. The humor could have been more dominant and drown out an important message but it was just right as well as just bizzairec enough to make the film stand out. The big stand up moments the music did not overwhelm the scene, rather supporting it, as the music in a motion picture is supposed to to do. The music let actors act and did not tell me how to feel in that given moment.
Again Problemista is a unique film anchored by another incredible performance by the great Tilda Swinton.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
