THE FALL GUY (2024)

STORYLINE: He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows, and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy, and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right? (IMDb)

The first firework of the 2024 summer movie season has lit up the silver screen.  It was loud.  It was flashly.  It was a whole lot of fun. A lot like a firework, The Fall Guy is exactly the kind of movie that should be the first to light up the summer movie season.

The movie unites Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, who both coincidentally competed against one another, at the box office, last summer in the battle of the summer blockbuster titans showdown Barbieheimer. In fact both stars earned Oscar nominations for their work in their films this past winter but I rant. Both seemed to be having a blast in their respective roles and it added to the atmosphere of fun in the film.

Based solely on the previews I was more than pleased with premise of the movie. I was expecting a Will they or won’t they love story, which was part of the movie. Pleasantly to my suppose the love story was just hokey enough to be fun and was a sub plot to an over the top conspiracy theory plot line.  At this point the filmmakers injected over the top action pieces and I sat back and enjoyed the ride.

At the heart of this movie is a love letter to those who risk their lice’s creating the most thrilling moments in films: the stunt performers. This love letter is well deserved. It is filled with loving moments recreating sone of the greatest stunts in films ranging from Kill Bill to Mad Max: Fury Road and everything in between.

The Fall Guy was a fun thrill ride to experience.  I hope you will do the same!

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
