Animated films come in all shapes and sizes. Some take us across the Spiderverse, while others take us to lands Far Far Away. Some animated feature films even show us the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh. In Dragonkeeper the audience is swept to a world where dragons are on the brink of extinction and they are in need of a hero.

The hero finds themself story has been told countless times throughout the animation genre, Aladdin, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda to name a few.  What works in telling the story of Dragonkeeper is telling a simple story and telling it well.  In this film it created an adventure of fun that seemed to fit its target audience of preteens.  Even the adults on the auditorium sermed to be into the story. I did not hear any groans as I have in previous movies.

What was the standout of the movie was the animation. It was a visual feast to enjoy, especially in a theatrical setting.

I know the animated feature Oscar is typically dominated by bud Disney titles or other popular animated producers but this is a film worthy of competing for the award.  The beautiful animation and the fun way the simple story was told makes it a worthy competitor.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
