STORYLINE: As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
Prequels are a difficult piece of cinema to create. The ending is already a given, making a prequel a puzzle piece that is being shoehorned into the cinematic puzzle. Some prequels work, such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Other prequels, such as Oz: The Great and Powerful do not work. In the middle of the road is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Mad Max: Fury Road set a high bar. Within the film is Charlize Theron as Furiosa and her incredible performance. Crafting Furiosa’s origin story was an up hill battle from the beginning.
The movie had thrilling action sequences in a predictable, post apocalypse revenge story. While I enjoyed the movie I would of enjoyed it more if Furiosa did not have the disadvantage of being part of a franchise. Let me put it another way, if yhis movie was the start of its own franchise, a stand alone film.
Anna Taylor-Joy (The Witch) embraced the title role and embraced well. In the end fell short of the incredible Charlize Theron. As mentioned previously Charlize Theron set an incredibly high bar to match. As the films villain, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) was menacing throught the films story arc. He was the highlight of the film.
The film was still fun to watch even thiugh it didn’t live up to its incredible predecessor.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
