TUESDAY (2024)

STORYLINE: A mother and her teenage daughter must confront Death when it arrives in the form of an astonishing talking bird. (IMDb)

Unsettling. Sad. Bizarre. All characteristics one does not expect to find in a film starring Julie Louis-Dreyfus. Then again neither is the subject matter of death and mortality.

I expected Tuesday to be a difficult film to watch, based of the subject matter.  I did find it to be a difficult film to watch but not in the way I was anticipating.  I was expecting an emotional gut punch but got a very haunting movie that was an emotional roller coaster.

Typically I dread these kind of movies because tend to gind them an insult to my intelligence. Tuesday never once crossed that line. The music never swelled to tell me how to feel, thus allowing the actors to act and the story to unfold allowing me to naturally come to my own emotional conclusions.

I loved the visual representation Of death as a parrot instead of a grim reaper type figure. Why shouldn’t death be something of comfort?

Tuesday tackles the subject of death from three unique perspective. First is that of the dying.  The second is that of the one who will be left behind.  Finally death itself. All three perspectives blend together to create a fasinating water color of a film.

Do not sit down anticipating a light film considering its comedic star but seeing is an emotional journey.

Until next I will see you at the movies!
