STORYLINE: Explore the lure of the Old West and how it was won-and lost-through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, embark on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.
There was a time in the 1950’s and 60’s when it seemed like cinemas where dominated by westerns and historic epics. True Grit, The Bridge on the River Kwai, On the Waterfront, and A fistful of Dollars to name a few were lighting up silver screens. As times changed so did the public’s tastes on films. While westerns and historical epics were still sprinkled into the release schedule, it had seemed there had seen their peek. In the past decade with releases such as the True Grit remake, Oppenheimer, and others these two genres seem to be making a revival. With the release of the first part in Keven Costner’s Horizon quartet the genres are melding.
This epic is a visual feast. The beauty is watching scenic Montana and Wyoming in the mid 1800’s plat across the big screen.
The film features multiple storylines with multiple points of view. Each storyline is cut intermittently with the others, giving the viewer a little of esvh story at a time. Each story adds up to a three hour movie that goes by in the blink of an eye.
I look forward to seeing Chapter Two of this historical saga in August, which is just on the Horizon.
Until next tone O will see you at the movies!
