STORYLINE: FBI Agent Lee Harker is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer. Nicolas Cage has entered a fascinating renaissance in his career over the past few years. There was the incredibly fun The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, the western The Old Way, and the mind bending Dream Scenario to name a few. This weekend saw the release of the latest in that line with the release of the psychological horror film Longlegs.
Longlegs follows an FBI agent as she hunts down cult like killer, who is masterfully and eerily played by Nicolas Cage.
Outside of the villainous performance that Nicolas Cage brings to the movie, Longlegs recalls the suspense of the first season of True Detective. Both focused on similar driving forces. Fortunately that is where the comparisons end and both works stand on their own merits.
Longlegs has many creepy moments to make it one of the stand out horror films in a crowded year of good horror films. Immaculate, The First Omen, and The Watchers just to name a few. Those creepy moments helped build a bit of atmosphere in the film, which compensated for being a tad on the predicative side of things. That, however, is the nature of any genre picture mo matter the genre.
Longlegs was worth the price of admission ad the investment in time to see the movie.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
