STORYLINE: A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life with his days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. But when his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctant Wolverine. (IMDb)
For a few years now superhero fatigue has set in. Every so often there will be a superhero release that will get my attention beyond the normal ‘here we go again’. The last time was 2022’a The Batman, which ended up being a, surprisingly, entertaining movie,
2024 saw the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. I was anticipating this release. I enjoyed the first two Deadpool films. I also really liked the direction that Logan(2017) went. This match up had the makings to be an over the top, Wild kind of movie.
The movie started as the typical kind of Deadpool feature that I enjoyed in the first two films. After the first act, however, it quickly dissolved into the typical Marvel formulaic kind of feature that has saturated cinemas in recent years. That was a disappointment to me. The other disappointment to me was the movie felt like it was holding back. Yes it was still rated R but under Disney Deadpool’s R rating seemed to be a watered down version of what is was usher the franchise was under 20th Century Fox distribution. Regardless this film appears to be on track for a big opening weekend, and despite my theories that the MCU, is on its last kegs, I am sure we will see another entry in the Deadpool franchise.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
