IT ENDS WITH US (2024)

STORYLINE: IT ENDS WITH US, the first Colleen Hoover novel adapted for the big screen, tells the compelling story of Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business. A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.     Blake Lively has starred in a variety of films that I have throughly enjoyed. Ben Affleck’s heist thriller Yhe Town, the 2015 romance The Age of Adeline, Woody Allen”# ensemble Cafe Soceity, the shark thriller The Sallows among other feature films.  The August release It Ends with Us came on my radar because she headlines it. Honestly that was the main reason I wanted to see the movie.  My expectations were not that high going into the movie.

I came out of the two hour and ten minute movie not overly impressed with the love story.  Again I did not expect to.  The film often felt like a Nicholas Sparks adaptation.

I will give it credit for not sugar coating its tough subject of abuse.  The film had a tough subject matter to tackle and it weaved it throughout the story. Without giving spoilers, because that is not my style, the film does tend make things uncomfortable.

Everyone who has read this blog before knows my pet peeve of over powering moments of Musi from the score telling me how to feel at a given moment in the film.  It Ends wit Us has plenty of us sprinkled throughout. As usual it hit that nerve.

I’m the end I found the movie to be mediocre.  I a, glad I saw it, not thrilled, but glad.

Until next time O will see you at the movies!
