When I saw Skincare was opening at local cinemas I knew nothing about the film. I saw Elizabeth Banks was in it and knew immediately I was going to see the movie. I support her career blindly because of inclusion riders she has written into her contracts. I then read the synopsis for Skincare. It gave me a semi suspense film vibe and I was satisfied with what I was about to walk into, with a bladder busting soft drink to watch the ninety six minute feature.
To paraphrase 2009’s Moneyball (side note watch Moneyball. It is an excellent film and my second favorite sports movie), there are good movies, there are bad movies, there is twenty feet of crap, then there is this movie: Skincare. Boy was I off the mark with the since of a suspense film when I read the synsopsis. The premise primarily around Elizabeth Banks complaining about how unfair the events of the plot were unfair were to her. This act got tiresome, well, in the first act of the film.
As Skincare progressed the plot tried to take twists and turns and change the tone to one that is darker. This just made the film desperate to keep me, as a viewer, engaged, when I was already struggling to keep engaged.
In the end it is safe to say I do not really care about the feature know as Skincare.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
