BETWEEN THE TEMPLES (2024)

STORYLINE: A cantor in a crisis of faith finds his world turned upside down when his grade school music teacher re-enters his life as his new adult Bat Mitzvah student. (IMDb)

For six years I was employed by The Chelsea theater, here in Chapel Hill. Week in and week out I enjoyed the company of my coworkers on shift Friday evenings.  Now I go back to the theater most Friday afternoons to catch the first matinee of the new release.  This week is the opening of Between the Temples.

The trailer of the movie starring Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kan ticjeled my funny bone.  I looked forward to getting my customary larger soft drink and small buttered popcorn Om my way to my customary seat in the third row on the right.

After an appropriate run time of trailers (10 min tires vs 25 minutes) the movie starts.

I was both pleased and disappointed either with what I saw when watching Between the Temples. The trailer led me to believe it was going to believe the movie was going to be more comedic and charming then it ended up being. That disappointed me.

What pleased me was the talking points of second chances. The movies talks about making the most of life’s second chances.

The film was a very well balanced dramedy. I was not prepared for that based on the trailer. Personally I would of preferred a bit more of a comedic touch. Not necessarily a slapstick touch but comedic non the less.

I still enjoyed visiting a local move theater, especially because I have fond memories of working there.

Until next time I will see you at the movies
