REAGAN (2024)

STORYLINE: From dusty small-town roots, to the glitter of Hollywood, and then on to commanding the world stage, REAGAN is a cinematic journey of overcoming the odds. Told through the voice of Viktor Petrovich, a former KGB agent whose life becomes inextricably linked with Ronald Reagan’s when Reagan first caught the Soviets’ attention as an actor in Hollywood, this film offers a perspective as unique as it is captivating. Dennis Quaid brings to life a story that transcends the boundaries of a traditional biopic, offering a profound exploration of the enduring impact of the power of one man who overcame the odds, sustained by the love of a woman who supported him in his journey.     Should a biopic of a public figure be objective of its subject? Absolutely.  Can the film?  That is a harder question to answer.  In the end we are all human, including those who make the movies.  We bring our views, objectives, and values to everything we do including those who make biopics.

First when I started this blog I had the intention to keep politics out of it and keep Willflix focused on movies.  This is a post of a movie about a president of the aunties States, I will do my very best to keep politics and my personal views out.

When I took my normal seat in the front row, right corner my expectation was if the film the solely focus on Reagan’s presidency and be a fluff piece for that.

I was surprised when the first half of the film started with Reagan’s childhood and progressed to his Hollywood years. A plot point or two even coveted his time as SAG president before transitioning to Reagen as the governor of California and eventually the President of the United States.

For the most part the movie was a fluff piece of his presidency, which I was expecting. It did his a few of the controversial points of the administration but they were glossed over.

The structure of the film is what fascinated me.  It was told from a Russian spy, in modern times, recounting the rise to power of Reagan and his administration.

The question is post 2016 election WOUKD this story structure be the way the film is presented? (Ok I made one political point.)

By the end of the film my expectation of the film was elevated from I am not sure how much I am going to enjoy it to enjoying it more than I thought I was going to.  I didn’t love it but I enjoyed it.  Which was a pleasant surprise.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
