STORYLINE: After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island’s animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. (IMDb)
Kids filns break down into two camps. The first is films that should not be made because they assume kids can not think and therefore over simplify the film. The second is challenges children to think beyond the premise as well as entertain them. The Wild Robot falls into camp number two.
Yes the movie is highly engaging. The film packs a strong emotional punch without insulting my intelligence. The film conveys its message without crossing that line into being preachy. (I will not repeat myself on how I feel about that). All these added together make for a strong movie. Put this in a kids film it makes for a strong kids film.
The Wild Robot is destined to be nominated to be nominated for the animated feature category at the Oscars. It will give Inside Out 2 (a film I also thought highly of for the same reasons) strong competition for the award. I’m the end, and time will tell who will win, I do believe Inside Out 2 will win but will be ok if The Wild Robot is victorious. I do have a friendly wager on the outcome of the award but that is neither here nor there and will put that in my post Oscar blog this winter.
Until nect time I will see you at the movies!
