STORYLINE: A mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott face-to-face with her 39-year-old self. But when Elliott’s “old ass” delivers warnings to her younger self, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about her family, life and love. (IMDb)
My Old Ass looks good and so does the movie. Ok I should rephrase that to be ib spirit of the movie, and in line with myself, my middle aged ass looks fantastic and the film My Old Ass looked hood. That’s enough about me, you are reading this blog to get my opinion on the movie.
When I first saw the trailer for this one I was thought I was going to get sone weird Freaky Friday like comedy. I saw a runtime in the ball park on ninety minutes thinking that seemed appropriate. Quickly, to mu pleasant sunrise, I realized I had misjudged the trailer.
While the movie featured a comedic side it also featured a heart warming side. My Old Ass walked a delicately thin line between being not being able to make that emotional connection and being so over the top that it insults my intelligence while I watch the movie. A nudge in either direction would have upset this balance. The film did not upset the balance and crafted a well balanced film.
The strength of the film lies in the story. It is a unique mentor story. Who better to give a teenage version of yourself then a middle aged version of yourself? Yes it’s a bit bizarre premise. I a, naturally drawn to films with a strange premise, and when they are a hit, they are a home run for me!
As I said at the start of this entry My Old Ass looked good and after checking it out I was not disappointed.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
