Have you ever been both excited and hesitant about seeing something? It could be a sporting event, a favorite celebrity in person, a musician live, or a movie. This was the case for me for Conclave.
On one side of the coin I hate when movies over deliver their messages. I call it preaching at me. Faith based movies are guilty of this cinematic sin more then any other film. On the other side of the coin I was drawn to the inner turmoil in electing a new pope. Thus is the premise of 2024’s Conclave.
While the film is about faith and doubt in faith it does not preach faith as its message. The film is more a political thriller. Considering we are on an election year that is more fitting and more appealing to my film going tastes. The film depicts just like the presidential race, when it comes to electing a pope there is political back trick of hand at play.
Ralph Fiennes,John Lithgo,, and Stanley Tucci, all great actors who deliver great performances. I would expect nothing less from all three great actors though.
I like it when my expectations are met, like is the case with Conclave.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
