STORYLINE: Two high school nobodies make the decision to crash the last major celebration before the new millennium on New Year’s Eve 1999. The night becomes even crazier than they could have ever dreamed when the clock strikes midnight. (IMDb)
I am old enough to remember Y2K. Sure I was in my obnoxious teenage years instead of being however old I am now and still sligtly obnoxious. With the memories of that chaos and pop culture of that time I assumed my normal seat with my customary snack (medium buttered popcorn and a large soft drink if you are wondering) to watch Y2K this past weekend.
There are two sides to me when it comes to this feature film. The first side is the film itself. It’s garbage. The movie is a bad Terminator ripoff. There was a lot of potential on the plot to be stupid fun and it fell short. Even the corny jokes were a huge miss. That was the biggest disappointment of the movie because I LOVE CORNY JOKES! I tell them often and that is where I am obnoxious. Yes I realize that.
The second side of me, the side that enjoyed Y2K, loved all the late 90’s pop culture throwbacks. Watching this film I realized how bad my tastes in things like music were back then. Ahh to be young and dumb. I really do not think I can use that as an excuse any more, can I?
The point I am trying to make is nostalgia is a powerful thing. It kicked in to high gear for me with so many boop culture reference from yesteryear.
Yes I am aware that I contradicted myself with this one but I feel that I gave you fair warning at the beginning when I stated that I was going to be two sided on this one.
Until next time Iwill see you at the movies!
