QUEER (2024)

STORYLINE: William Lee, an American expat and heroin addict in Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small American community he lives in. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, an expat former soldier, makes him believe it might finally be possible to establish an intimate connection with somebody. (IMDb)

Was former Bond actor Daniel Craig a draw to see Queer?  Absolutely.  Was he the only draw? Absolutely not. The story intrigued me and the images in the trailer had a visual appeal to me.

Throughout the film Daniel Crag gave an incredible performance.  I understand fully the awards buzz surrounding his performance. Also throughout the film was a visual style that was very appealing.

Where the film lost me was in the story. It held together nicely in the first two acts. In the third act it randomly switched gears.  The first two acts were a great slice of life narrative and the third act became a trippy spiritual quest.  I am not saying there is anything wrong with that I am saying it was a random switch in the story that lost my interest in the film.

Considering I enjoyed two out of the three acts of the film, the over all look of it man’s Daniel Craig’s performance I think I did ok with this one.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
