The weekend before Valentine’s Day two lovish themed films lit up the silver screen. (After all on the day to celebrate love Marvel Studios releases its latest Captain America film, and most other films will be white noise). The first release was the slasher film Heart Eyes, see a previous blog entry. The second was the action feature Love Hurts, see this blog entry.
The action sequences were over the top goofy, which I enjoyed. Outside of some franchise entries such as the 007 film No Tome to Die (2921) and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024), this is the trend. The Beekeepers (2024), Nobody (2021), and franchise like Deadpool go for over the top goofy.
Where Love Hurts fails is in the dialogue. It uses it as bad filler in between action sequences. There is a lot of time over explaining a very simple plot.
Simple plots in a film like this make the film more enjoyable. I sit back, eat handfuls of popcorn intermixed with gulps of soda while not having to pay much attention to what is going because I know where the plot is going, and have just mindless fun. The continual over explaining of the simple plot of Love Hurts denied me of that. At least I enjoyed throwing back handfuls of popcorn intermixed with gulps of soda.
Between the slasher release Heart Eyes and the action film Love Hurts I enjoyed Heart Eyes more of the Valentine’s releases.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
