BECOMING LED ZEPPELIN (2025 – Documentary)

STORYLINE: The film, which dives into the rise of the epochal rock group, is the only documentary of its kind that the band themselves have participated in. The documentary includes new interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, as well as rare archival interviews with the band’s late drummer John Bonham. (IMDb)

There is a subgenre within documentaries I have dubbed the musical documentary.  Instead of being concert films these documentaries that focus their lens on a musical subject. My favorites include The Wrecking Crew, which focuses the work on session musicians in the 1960s.  Muscle Shoals, about the famed recording studio, hds a spot on that list.  Topping the list is the Oscar winning Searching for Sugarman, which documents two men’s quest to discover a little known rockstar named Rodriguez.  This weekend, the latest musical documentary, Becoming Led Zeppelin, rocked into theaters.

In the current theatrical market I find it rare to see documentaries and I enjoy documentaries.    I have never been a fan of Led Zeppelin music, but still wanted to go see this documentary.  I enjoyed seeing their creative process in recording their albums. I also enjoyed the pop culture references, from the era, that were sprinkled throughout the film.

The magic of seeing this documentary Om the big screen was taking advantage of the theaters surround sound. As previously mentioned I am not a fan o Led Zeppelin’s music but appreciated listening to it coming at from all directions, especially the few clips of classic concert footage.

Becoming Led Zeppelin fit nicely into my enjoyment of musical documentaries.

Until next time I will se you at movies!
