STORYLINE: A rebellious teenager who believes her missing father was abducted by aliens joins forces with a quirky UFO club of endearing misfits. They embark on a high-stakes adventure that defies the law and challenges the very fabric of reality. (IMDB)
For me science fiction films come on one coin. Like all coins there are two sides. The first side are well made films. Blade Runner (1982), Aliens (1986), and The Emile Strikes Back (1980) are on this side of the coin. The flip side are cheesy B films. This side of the feature The Thing from another World (1951), The Signal (2014), and Slingshot (2024). To me, anything that falls off that coin is not particularly good. If the science fiction stays on either side of the coin it is a lot of fun. Watch the askies is a cheesy B film about UFO hunters on the trail for a UFO.
Like most UFO films I found it to me fun. Slinkied in were moments of suspense, nothing to make it a horror movie, but to keep it fun.
Despite the alien theme of the sci-fi feature there are no aliens. Humanity is at the heart of the story. I like when science fiction films do that. Moon (2009) and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (2014) do this beautifully.
A complaint I have is how many times can a film explain worm holes by folding a piece of paper? That’s not a spoiler it’s three seconds of screen tine, like It is in other films I have seen. It’s a minor complaint in a mindless popcorn flick.
There’s not much to say about this film except it’s a B feature. I enjoy those. They hekp me to appreciate other, more excellent films better.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
