THE UNHOLY TRINITY (2025, western)

STORYLINE: Buried secrets of an 1870s Montana town spark violence when a young man returns to reclaim his legacy and is caught between a sheriff determined to maintain order and a mysterious stranger hell-bent on destroying it.  (IMDb)

Secret. Lies. Betrayal. No this is not a political debate.  These three adjectives tend to be staples of the western genre.  Much like the musical or horror genres westerns have been routinely one of the most popular genres since cinema first began.  The Unholy Trinity  starring Samuel L Jackson and Pierce Brosnan, is the latest celluloid picture in the genre.

In fashions of the genre the film is set on the American frontier in the mid 1800’s.  The film climaxes in a shootout.  There are good guys, bad guys, and shady characters all wrapped up together. All of which I enjoyed.

As westerns go The Unholy Trinity worked for me. I came out of the auditorium entertained. I enjoy entries that the genre has produced.  I have enjoyed classics such as both the 1969 and 2010 True Grit and Clint Eastwood’s Oscar winning Unforgiven (1992) better.  Then again those films set a high bar.

Ever since Golden Eye (1995) I have enjoyed Pierce Brosnan in the hero role. Watching him in the hero role in

The Unholy Trinity was no different.

Samuel L Jackson was menacing as the villain as the films villain.  While he only shared one or two scares, during the climax of the film, with Pierce Brosnan I loved watching the two together on screen.

While not my favorite western, in the end thete was plenty for me to enjoy.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
