28 YEARS LATER (2025)

STORYLINE: It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.     Apocalyptic movies have many different takes on how civilization falls.  The Day After Tomorrow (2004) it portrays man kinds downfall as climate change while the highly entertaining A Boy and His Dog (1975) has the workd ending as a result of nuclear war.  28 Days Later (2003) brings the worlds end through a zombie outbreak caused by a virus.  Now the 2025 release  28 Yeara Later picks up almost three decades after the events that caused the world to end in the first feature film.

28 Years Later, much like Apocalypse Now (1979), is one persons journey through a chaotic situation. In both films the violence is nail biting.  While on their odyssey the central character encounters aid from some questionable allies while others tend to be naïve to the event going on.  Much like the war classic the formula works for the zombie apocalypse.

28 Years Later returns to the gritty, handheld look that 28 Days Later had.  The second entry in the franchise, 28 Weeks Later sat visual style out, for a more traditional Hollywood look,    The gritty look feels right in the when zombies bring the collapse of the world.

My biggest complaint Witt the film is with the editing. During the chase sequences, there woukd be pauses, each lasting a second, after a zombie would meet its end.  This quick pause would take me out of the film abd I would take a brief amount of tine to reenfdr the film.

Ralph Fiennes shows up in the film as one of the aids on the heoes joiebet, as a Col Kurtz like character. This is coming on the heels of his Oscar nominated performance in 2024’s Conclave.  In this small 28 Years Later performance Ralph Finnies shines.

28 Years Later lives up to the first film in its franchise and out does the second film. Honestly I struggle to renrenver 28 Weeks Later.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
